Forms of Government

Mrs. Beth Stohlmann

All societies have an organization that exercises authority over a political unit; in other words, a government. How governments are formed and the manner in which they exercise power has been a source of conflict for thousands of years. Monarchy or democracy? Dictatorship or socialism? Communism or anarchy? This course will examine the fundamental questions of power and governance, helping students to understand why particular forms of government have emerged around the world. A refined understanding of how governmental systems function will deepen your appreciation for American democracy and help you to become a better-informed voter.
