This introductory class is designed for 9th-grade students to learn the art of communicating clearly and effectively through writing. Together, we will read and analyze mentor texts, complete writing exercises, work through essential grammar understandings, and develop a clear understanding of essay structure. An essay is simply a puzzle – so we will break it down into pieces that each student can master. This class will explore the writing process, experiment with different writing techniques, and be exposed to MLA format. Emphasis will be placed on writing for both academic and real-world audiences and assignments will include a personal experience essay, compare/contrast essay, a research paper, complete with citations, and more!
