Students will create compelling arguments, find their written and spoken voices, and hear from some of the most influential voices of the past and present through historical documents, American folklore, autobiographies, and impacting fiction. Our chosen literature books share the themes of power, influence, the value of pain, and embracing our God-given purpose in life.

REQUIRED BOOKS

Windows to the World Student Workbook (NEW, UNUSED COPIES ONLY)

Person choice: one book of personal choice (any genre, any author, over 200 pages, no pictures, appropriate content for class discussions). *Mrs. Ristow can provide a list of suggestions for those who aren’t sure what to choose. This book is not needed until February*

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will be reading many more texts than listed above, but all are available for free in online PDF format. Of the required literature books, all formats are approved (audio, book, or PDF); although, some books may not be available in any other format aside from paper book. The required textbook must be in physical format brought to brought to class each day. It should be ordered A MONTH PRIOR TO SCHOOL to ensure delivery.

(​Note: This binder can be shared with another subject; however, students will need a large section dedicated to English class since binder and notes will be used for classroom activities, tests, and quizzes; binder will be assembled on first day of class.)
