Chemistry (lab)

Teacher: TBD

Prereq: Algebra I

Co-requisite: Algebra II

Everything you see, hear, smell, taste and touch involves chemistry. Chemistry is all around us. It’s used to create medicines, feed people, protect the environment, solve crimes, create consumer products, and send astronauts to space. Understanding chemistry will help unlock the hidden world around you.

Simply put, chemistry is the branch of science that studies matter. In this course you’ll learn about the identification of substances, investigate their properties and how they interact, combine and change. This rigorous course covers a wide range of chemistry topics, including atomic theory and bonding, phases of matter, and thermodynamics in the first semester; and solutions, acids and bases, stoichiometry, and chemical reactions in the second semester. We’ll explore each topic, learn critical thinking skills along the way and use hands-on lab techniques to get you thinking like a scientist.
